mr. H.J.J.M. (Hein) van der Bruggen

Hein van der Bruggen studied civil and notarial law at Leiden University and finished the studies in 1972 and 1973. After having worked a number of years as a junior civil-law notary in the western part of the country, he was admitted to the bar in Roermond and joined Van der Bruggen Advocaten, his father's law firm. When his father died in 1983, he continued the firm. In 1984 his firm merged with René van Boven’s firm. That is how Van Boven & Van der Bruggen Advocaten came into existence.

Hein was chairman or a board member of a few local and regional historic foundations. History is one of his passions. As chairman of the editorial board he prepares the annual publication of ‘Spiegel van Roermond’ (The Mirror of Roermond), a historical yearbook for Roermond. He is involved in a regular way in the writing and preparation of historical publications, next to his own publications. In 2008 he received the Silver Carnation of the Prince Bernhard Culture Fund in recognition of his work for historiography and culture preservation and became citizen of honour of the city of Roermond in 2013.

On the 28th of October 2021 Hein graduated as a Ph.D. at the Leiden University on his dissertation ‘Aspecten van Joods leven in Roermond en Midden-Limburg 1275-2018’ (aspect of Jewish life in Roermond and Mid-Limburg 1275-2018).
